Driver Safety
Course Overview
Duration: 5 Units Micro-Course
This online course, Acellus Driver Safety, teaches students the fundamentals and best practices of operating a vehicle safely. Created by the International Academy of Science, the course includes lessons targeting traffic laws, driving practices and safety. It is designed to supplement other driver’s education and state-specific driver’s license studies.
Students will learn about vehicle types, internal systems, how to change a tire, and car safety as well as traffic signals and signs. They will also study the rules of the road and how to merge with other traffic. Some other subjects covered in this course include learning to yield to cyclists and pedestrians, drive defensively, obey alcohol and drug laws, and recognize and reverse direction to avoid colliding with other vehicles. Students also learn how to navigate bad road conditions at night or during inclement weather, licensing, related laws, and more.
The course finds a perfect balance between theory and practical exercises, in turn helping young drivers to prepare for both their written exams, and their road tests. Through interactive lessons, students will cover important topics from how to handle car emergencies, to basic vehicle maintenance, and the dangers of distracted driving.
Upon successful completion of this course, the students will have acquired knowledge and competences about defensive driving standards and general traffic rules. They will also comprehend the responsibilities that come along with operating a motorized vehicle.
The Acellus Driver Safety course is designed to produce knowledgeable, confident teen drivers, ready to take on the roads with skill and safety. This course introduces young drivers to numerous topics and gives them the keys for their own success.
Note: Since this micro-course is less than a semester long, it is not typically used for high school credit.
