How do I begin homeschooling?

If your student has not previously attended a public school, you can begin homeschooling immediately. For students with prior enrollment in a public school, a parent or guardian can send a withdrawal letter to the district as a courtesy to inform the school that the student will not be returning. Illinois does not mandate homeschool registration or require notification to the state.

All homeschools in Illinois are considered a private school and parents set the graduation requirements for their students. There are no specified minimum hours or days of instruction.

Participation in state standardized testing is not compulsory for homeschoolers.

This varies by individual district and also depends on if the sport is governed by IESA and IHSA. https://www.ihsa.org/documents/forms/current/HomeSchoolFactSheet.pdf

Acellus offers core classes that align with Illinois Learning Standards. Acellus Homeschool allows our son to attend classes on his own set schedule. He can replay each lesson, if he didn’t understand something he walk away and return to the lesson with a clearer mind. The program is set up with cumulative assessments to make sure material is understood. If assessment shows low score, they place another video at times with a different teacher explaining the lesson. This method allows him to connect different concepts. His favorite subject has been coding/robotic lessons.
