Our Social Studies Categories
We are the official provider of Acellus® social studies courses, which fall into history or geography subjects, for parents independently homeschooling their children. The subjects are more generalized from first to fifth grade, and then the classes become more specialized in middle and high school. Check out some of our courses for each category below.
Homeschool History Curriculum
As a branch of the general social studies category, history covers the events of the past, from ancient civilizations to the United States. Acellus® world and American history homeschool courses are designed to span a wide range of history in each class. Choose from the following course options and more, ranging from middle to high school availability:
Ancient Civilizations:
This middle school-level course covers the ancient world, including basic geography and the beginnings of civilization. Your student will study a wide range of world history, from the Neolithic Age to the Renaissance.
Introduction to U.S. History:
Your student will learn the motivations behind the initial European discovery and emigration, explore the nation’s struggle for independence and conclude with the exploration of the Civil War in this introductory course.
United States History (AP available):
Middle school and high school levels both offer United States history courses that continue the content in the introductory option. The course starts at the end of the Western frontier and spans to the post-9/11 challenges of the nation. There is also an AP United States history option available for high school students.
World History (AP available):
Take a world history-specific class that touches on the significant events that shaped cultures and conflicts that affected the world we know today. High schoolers can also decide to take the AP course for college credit.
U.S. Government and Civics:
For a further U.S. history breakdown, students can take U.S. Government and Civics to learn more about the fundamental principles of the Constitution of the United States and how the government runs today
Homeschool Geography Curriculum
Acellus® social studies courses also include geography-specific focuses to better understand our world. Some of the available courses include:
- World History and Geography 1 and 2: Middle school students can get a glimpse of our world’s history and geography in two separate courses. The second course picks up where the first course left off, covering our continents, countries and their cultures in depth.
- Introduction to Geography: In 15 units, this course introduces middle schoolers to the fundamentals of geography, focusing on different regions, topics and themes along the way.
- World Geography: This high school-level course details the Earth, its lands, oceans, climate and other geographical features. Students will also discuss the geography-related challenges that are facing our world today.
